Microsoft Office System CoursesAlthough not part of the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Works is the productivity suite that comes pre-installed on most retail computer systems, and has Microsoft Word as its word processor, a spreadsheet program, calendar program, and many other features that make it a suitable choice for most home users' needs. The program includes over 200 formatted project templates to help you write letter, create greeting cards and invitations, develop simple spreadsheets for tracking expenses, and a reminder calendar and contact list. Prerequisite: Students must have take a beginner computer class or have basic computer skills. 2 sessions, 3 hours per session. Instructor Bob Weiss. Microsoft FrontPage: Designing A Small Business or Personal Web Site This course is for the moderately experienced computer user who wants to learn how to make a simple web site for personal or business use and host it on the Internet. The student should be familiar with MS Office applications and file management using Windows Explorer. The class learns how to use Microsoft Front Page 2003 web design software. We will cover basic and multi-page design as well as designing navigation controls, adding pictures and graphics, and posting your site on the Internet. We'll also talk about strategies for getting traffic to your web site. FrontPage 2003 software will be available from the instructor at the special academic price of $70. This class will be taught at Boutwell’s Landing Computer Lab, 5600 Norwich Parkway, Stillwater, MN. See http://www.wyzguys.net/locations.htm for a map and directions. Facilities will be available to support students who wish to bring their own laptops to the lab. Four sessions, 3 hours per session. Instructor Bob Weiss. Microsoft FrontPage: Designing An E-Commerce Web Store Prerequisite: Designing a Small Business or Personal Website. In this course, students will expand on the skills they have already developed in the Web Design course. Students will learn how to add e-commerce functionality to there existing web site, adding a catalog of items for sale on-line, and how to set up a secure site for accepting credit card and other financial transactions. 3 sessions, 3 hours per session. Microsoft Word: Creating Documents with Microsoft Word Students will letter how to format various types of letters and documents, and how to add a chart, table, or picture to a document. This class will also teach how to use an address list created inside Word, or imported from other programs, to print address labels, envelopes, and to create mail/merge documents. 2 sessions, 3 hours per session. Instructor Bob Weiss. Microsoft Excel: Creating Spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel In this class, students will learn how to set up and format simple to moderately complex spreadsheets. We will focus on using simple formulae to automatically total columns and rows and perform various calculations. Learn how to format your spreadsheet so it prints properly. We will also learn how to turn information in a table into a chart using Excel’s built in wizards and tools. 2 sessions, 3 hours per session. Instructor Bob Weiss. Microsoft PowerPoint: Creating Presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint Students will learn how to create powerful presentations using PowerPoint. We will create simple presentations from scratch and using PowerPoint’s built in wizards. We will learn how to use information in Word and Excel documents, spreadsheets and charts in the presentation, as well as how to add animation and music to your presentation. 2 sessions, 3 hours per session. Microsoft Publisher: Creating Professional Publications with Microsoft Publisher Students will learn how to lay out and publish flyer, brochures, catalog pages, advertising, marketing materials, and booklets with Microsoft Publisher. We will learn how to copy and paste from Word and other office aplications, and how to work with picuters and graphics. 2 sessions, 3 hours per session. Instructor Bob Weiss Microsoft Outlook: Organizing Your Life and Time with Microsoft Outlook Outlook is a personal information manager. It combines features of a scheduler, contact manager, e-mail reader and organizer, task list, and journal into one integrated, easy to use software package. Students will learn how to use the calendar to set reminders, and schedule appointments and recurring events. We will also cover using the contact manager to create address lists and information stores about people in your life, and how to use the powerful e-mail interface not only to send and receive e-mail, but to organize and store e-mails in a simple to use folder system. We will also discuss how using the built-in task list and journal can help you keep track of important tasks and work performed. 2 sessions, 3 hours per session. Instructor Bob Weiss.
